Jems January Blog Hop

Hello and welcome to the first Jem's blog hop of the year,
it's such a busy and exciting time of year as a demonstrator and for you as a customer
with the NEW Spring summer catalogue and sale-a-bration release.
Our theme for this month had to be something from the Sale-a-bration catalogue.

For my project I chose this adorable ' Hey Chick ' stamp set.
It was top of my list and so up my street, cute and a little quirky!

I do have a bit of a soft spot for chickens,I had my own little brood when I was a child,
we lived in the countryside and I would sell their eggs for a little bit of pocket money.
They are such characters and have me in hysterics how they run with their short little legs!

Read what the illustrator, Lori Sume, has to say about her inspiration for the set:
When I was a child growing up in Canada, I remember some family friends who had little chickens that I thought were so cute. A couple of summers ago here in Utah, I stopped at a friend’s ranch and saw all their cute animals including their chickens. They had typical chickens but also another kind called Polish Frizzle Bantam White Chickens. I think they are so funny with all those feathers flopping around on the top of their heads and how they like to stare straight at you and cock their heads.
So when I was assigned to create the Hey, Chick Stamp Set, I was so excited. I wanted to exaggerate the rounder chickens and really make them round, and I also really wanted to draw one of those funny chickens I saw at my friend’s ranch. It was a really fun set to create.

For this card, I stamped two of the chickens directly on to the watercolour paper using Soft suede and with a wet brush I dragged ink from the outline to colour them in,
I wanted a soft and subtle look to them both so that the central chicken stood out more.
The central chicken I stamped on a separate piece of watercolour paper with black versafine ink and coloured it in with Crumb cake and soft suede ink, using Calypso coral for a rosy cheek.
I cut her out and used foam pads to give her dimension and added ground detail using again soft suede ink and pool party ink outlining the chickens to make them pop a little.

I think this set is going to be very popular!
a great one for Easter celebrations too!
